This series of 9 paintings was done with fountain pen ink and carbon ink on banshuxuan additionally gelatin-alum-treated to ripen it into shuxuan. The series title was aptly named SPIRaloof, a wordplay on spiral staircase and the aloof behaviour of felines.

The SPIRaloof series combines my passion for spiral staircases with my love for kittens. Each piece of artwork stands out as a functional box pouch complete with a leather handle and intentionally aged for that vintage look. Each piece embodies the weathered state of a spiral staircase, inviting viewers to explore its whimsical charm. Through meticulous craftsmanship, I aim to create a visual and emotional experience that celebrates the harmony between architectural beauty and the simple joys, simple pleasure of everyday life.
